Dr. Vanessa Howard

 

Dr. Vanessa Howard has been passionate about reading for over twenty years. She has worked on the school district level writing curriculum, developing assessments, supporting teachers, modeling effective literacy instruction, and observing/providing effective feedback to teachers. Her background as both a teacher and administrator in elementary settings, along with her doctoral study in reading has helped Dr. Howard to develop a systematic, research-based approach to Balanced Literacy that is practical and gets results.

Dr. Howard has been recognized as an exemplary educator by the St. Louis American News Paper and by her peers. She was selected by a panel of her peers as the Teacher of the Year for the Ferguson-Florissant School District in 2013. She is one of the five African Americans that was selected for the district-wide position.   Dr. Howard has worked with teachers from across the nation helping them become effective classroom teachers, leaders, and facilitators of knowledge.   Dr. Howard is an adjunct professor at a Historically Black College and University teaching methodology courses and supervising student teachers.  

Dyslexia Practitioner

Dr. Vanessa Howard conducts professional learning workshops, site-based coaching, and program certifications across the country. She has extensive experience supporting Tier 1, 2, and 3 classrooms in urban, suburban, rural, high ELL, and Title I settings.   In her spare time, she loves to sew and spend quality time with her family.
